The Mission
We will serve the Jewish people in showing them the love of Christ by helping them with their fall Harvest. We will be picking grapes in the vineyards, picking olives, possible construction, cooking, being available to help them as needed. One farmer was on the verge of loosing his vineyard until the Christians came and helped. We have the opportunity to literally be the "Good Samaritan" Luke 10:25-37 in Samaria by helping our neighbor with our labor, beautiful!
Here's a glimpse of what the people of God are up to in Israel!
Lodging:
Apartments (will need sleeping bag and pillow).
Tax Deductible:
Mission trips are tax deductible. Save all receipts.
THINGS TO BRING:
Clothing
7 outfits should be plenty, 4 work, 3 play or good clothes. You won't need anything really dressy. We may have an opportunity to swim. We recommend long men's trunks and roomy colored t-shirts for everyone, no swimsuits please. Our primary work places will be amongst the Orthodox, so our clothing should be conservative.
Men: short sleeve shirts--t-shirt length sleeves, no tank tops. Pants are most conducive to the work environment, long loose shorts for touring or off days are ok. Please be considerate of the ladies on your team, at no time will it be appropriate to go without a shirt.
Ladies: short sleeve shirts--t-shirt length sleeves, no tank tops or spaghetti strap tops. You may prefer a long sleeve for a sun shield if the sun burns or irritates your skin. Long (below the knee) skirts or dresses are preferable, pants are ok if they are loose and your top covers your bottom. Please no tight blue jeans or shorts.
Work hat, gloves, shoes: Some of us work in sandals (with good support, no flip flops), others wear tennis shoes or boots, whichever you prefer. The temperature is normally between 55-90 degrees, no humidity very nice breeze. Bring a lightweight jacket or sweat shirt for early mornings in the vineyard.
Touring
We will walk A LOT! Start now taking a mile or two walk everyday to get ready. If you are not very active the more you do now the better you will fare in Israel. Our apartment is on the 3rd floor, most of the housing will require lots of steps. Bring good walking shoes or sandals.
Water Bottle
It is vital that you have a good water bottle. Dehydration is a serious concern. Make sure to keep yourself hydrated! Maybe a pouch or carrier would be handy to free up your hands. It is a pain to carry while you're working and you are constantly moving. Be sure and mark your bottle.
Back Pack
A light back pack is helpful in the vineyard.
Don't forget!
BIBLE, SLEEPING BAG, PILLOW, TOWEL, WASHCLOTH, TOILETRIES, SUNSCREEN

OPTIONAL ITEMS:
Camera, journal, laptop, binoculars, pocket knife**
We strongly encourage you to pack light! You don't want to be lugging around any extra weight! Also, keep in mind that you're going to want some room to bring back a few goodies!
If you're bringing a laptop you may want to download Skype as a means of communicating with your family in the States. All you need is a headset with a mic (you can get them at Wal-Mark for pretty cheap). If you're not bringing a laptop, one will be available, we'll just have to work it out so that everyone gets phone time.
**If you're bringing ANY KIND of pocket knife be sure it goes in your check in luggage on your flight over (not your carry on). Once you get to Israel it's ok to have it while we're in Ariel and on work days. On tour days you must leave it wherever you're staying.
